Traveling the Bayou to Recovery Uncover, Discover, Recover on the Bayou SOAR 8 RECOVERY CONVENTION AND BUSINESS ASSEMBLY – Rescheduled to October 23-26, 2020

Out of an abundance of caution due to the spread of Covid-19 (novel coronavirus) the Region 8 Spring 2020 Recovery Convention and Assembly and Business Assembly has been rescheduled. The new date is October 23-25, 2020. Thank you for your patience and thanks to everyone working to assure that the health and safety of our fellowship is first and foremost. Please read answers to the Frequently Asked Questions below:

FAQs: Region 8 Spring Assembly Rescheduled to October 23-26, 2020

1. What will happen to the Fall Assembly scheduled for October 9-11, in Nashville, TN?

a. The Region 8 Fall Assembly previously scheduled for October in Nashville, Tennessee, will also be rescheduled. New date: March 26-28, 2021. Many thanks to the Middle Tennessee Intergroup for their gracious work to reschedule.

2. Do I need to cancel my hotel reservation?

a. The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Baton Rouge, LA will cancel all reservations made using the code SOA. If you made reservations outside the SOA block please, please call and cancel 24 hours prior to 6 PM of your arrival date. It never hurts to call and cancel even if your reservation is in the SOA block. If you have any questions please call the Intergroup Hotel Liaison: Aleta P – (225) 937-0566 or

**update** If you have a reservation at the Baton Rouge Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn or any other Baton Rouge Facility for the duration of our scheduled Convention, although we have been informed that all rooms would be “wiped out” I have information that at least in some cases that is not true.
Please, Please make sure that your reservation is cancelled by 6 PM at least 24 hours prior to scheduled arrival. In other words cancelling by Wednesday morning would be prudent.

3. What about my airline ticket?

a. The best option may be to simply reschedule for October. Due to the National State of Emergency Declaration airlines are waiving change fees.

4. Will I get a refund on my registration fees, etc.?

a. Unfortunately, the Baton Rouge Intergroup will not be able to provide refunds. The funds were used to secure the deposit on the hotel. As you know, most Intergroups work tirelessly to provide recovery opportunities on a very small budget. Hopefully, most attendees will be able to reschedule for October. The Intergroup is allowing transfer of registration to another person or you may choose to donate your registration as a beautiful expression of our 7th Tradition.

5. Why wasn’t everything on the website immediately?

a. Region 8 has an amazingly generous webmaster who offers expert, professional level services at a ridiculously low rate. The decision to reschedule was made at an emergency meeting last night after many hours of work to assure that a new workable plan was in place. The information WILL be up on the website soon but we ask for your patience and love as we work through this difficult time.

6. What about volunteers and speakers who were scheduled for March?

a. Thanks so much to all who volunteered. A lot of time and effort was expended in preparing for the event. The Intergroup will still need your help in October and are hoping that you will still be willing and available. Please respond when you are contacted.

Our primary focus at this time remains the health and safety of the fellowship. We all ask for love and understanding as we do our very best to resolve these issues. We, and the world, are facing a worldwide pandemic. Our population, for many reasons, is highly vulnerable. We are taking action as quickly as possible.

Fellow OAs,

After an emergency meeting with a quorum of the BRIG Officers/Executive Board Friday, March 13, an unanimous decision made to postpone our event set for March 2020.

The plan now is for reschedule to October 23-25, 2020. More details will be forthcoming.

The safety and health of our Fellowship is paramount! We understand many of you were anxious to get a decision made. There was a multitude of information we had to pour over so we could answer your questions, not only concerning the postponement but about moving forward to October.
